Safety tips and safety policy
Online dating carries real risks. Read this page before you meet anyone in person, and come back to it any time.
Safety notice
SACRADUO DOES NOT CONDUCT CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS OR CRIMINAL BACKGROUND SCREENINGS ON ITS MEMBERS.
We do not check IDs yet, and no dating service can promise that a person is safe. Read our safety tips before you meet anyone in person.
Online Dating Safety Awareness
- Online dating can carry real risks. Use these tips every time.
- Anyone who is able to commit identity theft can also falsify a dating profile.
- A profile, its photos and what someone tells you about themselves may be false.
- There is no substitute for acting with caution when communicating with any stranger who wants to meet you.
- Never include your last name, e-mail address, home address, phone number, place of work, or any other identifying information in your Internet profile or initial e-mail messages. Stop communicating with anyone who pressures you for personal or financial information or attempts in any way to trick you into revealing it.
- Do not share your Social Security number or your daily routine, and wait to share anything that would let someone find you until you feel comfortable with the other person.
- If you choose to have a face-to-face meeting with another member, always tell someone in your family or a friend where you are going and when you will return. Never agree to be picked up at your home. Always provide your own transportation to and from your date and meet in a public place with many people around.
- If a member seems suspicious, harasses or threatens you, tries to defraud you, or asks you for money, stop replying, block them and report them to us.
Protecting Yourself from Sexual Assault and Dating Violence
- Sexual contact without consent is a crime, and it breaks our rules.
- If a date or a partner assaults or abuses you, it is not your fault. In an emergency, call 911. Report it to the police and to us.
- Free, confidential help is available at any hour: the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233, or text START to 88788 (thehotline.org, and in Spanish at espanol.thehotline.org), and the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-656-4673.
- Reporting can protect other people, and it lets us act.
Protecting Yourself from Financial Crimes
- Never send money or gifts to someone you have not met in person, especially by wire transfer, gift card, payment app or cryptocurrency, even if they say it is an emergency.
- Never share your bank, card or account details, or your passwords.
- If someone asks you for money or financial information, stop replying and report them to us. You can also report the scam to the Federal Trade Commission at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. If you already paid, contact your bank or the payment company right away.
- If you are the victim of a financial crime, report it to the police and to us.
How to report: use Report on any profile or conversation, or write to us from Help & Support or the Contact page.
How to report a member
Use Report on any profile or conversation, or write to us from the Contact page. If you are in danger right now, call 911 first. Reporting never counts against you, and the person you report is never told who reported them.
How we handle harassment reports
If a member harasses, threatens or pressures you, report them. Use Report on their profile or in your conversation with them, or write to us from the Contact page. If you are in danger right now, call 911 first.
A person at SacraDuo reads every report. No machine decides what happens to it. A report that names a minor, a threat or someone in danger goes to the front of the queue. We do not promise how long a review takes.
To review a report we may read the reported profile and the conversation you reported. Messages on SacraDuo are not end-to-end encrypted, so a person at SacraDuo can read a reported conversation.
If we find that our rules were broken, we remove the content or permanently ban the account. Those are the only two actions we take today; we do not issue warnings or temporary suspensions.
The person you report is never told who reported them. Reporting never counts against you, even when we decide that no action is needed.
Please report only what you believe is true. A report made to harm someone is itself a violation of our rules, and we may act on the account that filed it.
A member whose account is banned can appeal from the sign-in screen, which shows an appeal form after a ban. A person at SacraDuo reads every appeal and decides.
We never search a sex-offender registry, court records or a background-check service about anyone, including after a report. The help lines in the safety notice above are free, confidential and open at any hour.
